Air Conditioning
It is important to keep the tank to the correct temperature to avoid streessing or even killing the livestock. Having Halides over the tank really creates a huge amount of heat in the room and also heats the water up by several degrees during the day. To cool my lights down during the day and to maintain a constant temperature in the tank, I have a 3 .8Kw airconditioning unit fitted to the room. I have the main fan unit outside on the wall as per the image on the left and the inside unit fitted high up in the room. This unit is capable of keeping the air temperature from 16oC to 30oC. It dehumidifies constantly so i dont have a damp problem un the winter. In the winter it has the capability of heating the room to 30oC with its 4.0Kw heater.
Before I used to have the air conditioning in the room, I used to have two 6" fans over the tank creating a breeze over the water but rapidly realised in the peak of the summer that it wasn't going to be enough, i still use them every now and then when the air is a bit stuffy. A good air conditioning package will cost you around £700, but its well worth it and it doesnt cost much at all to keep running. Without it I would be in trouble as the tank would be well over 30oC in the summer. The other option was to have a chiller on the tank but that would only make the room hotter and the fish happy, this sorts both problems in one shot. |
